For over a century, the name Lydick-Hooks has stood for quality, integrity and responsibility. In 1991, we began our second century of service to the homeowners, institutions and industries of Texas with an undiminished commitment to excellence in every phase of roofing applications.
From its humble beginnings in Fort Worth in 1891, the Lydick-Hooks Roofing Company has grown into one of the nation's largest applicators of roofing products. The firm has left its mark over a wide expanse of West Texas on construction projects ranging from mammoth defense installations to modest residences. Today, from its strategic locations, Lydick-Hooks operates full service facilities in Abilene, Midland, Lubbock, Brownwood and Wichita Falls.
It has been that way since John E. Lydick quit his job with the Santa Fe Railroad, and started his own business, coating metal roofs in Fort Worth, Texas. In the 1900s, his son, Ned Lydick, began working for him, soon to be joined by J.M. Hooks, who opened a branch in Abilene in 1920.
Joe W. Lydick, was the third generation of the family to be active in the business. He began working for his father, Ned Lydick, at the age of 14 as a built-up roofer. He was the roofing superintendent on the roof installation at the Convair plant (now General Dynamics) in Fort Worth in 1941. The mile-long roof, with nearly 2 million square feet, remains today as one of the largest roofs ever installed on a single building. Joe Lydick served as Chairman of the Board until his death in 1997.
Ralph N. Hooks Sr. of Abilene, son of J.M. Hooks served as Vice Chairman of the Board. Ralph was also responsible for instituting the health insurance and profit sharing retirement program for the employees of Lydick-Hooks Roofing. Ralph Hooks passed away in 1995.
Randy Hooks, son of Ralph Hooks, currently serves as chairman of the five corporations. He is President of Lydick-Hooks Roofing Co. of Lubbock, Inc., having worked there since his graduation from Texas Tech in 1969. Randy represents the third generation of the Hooks family to be active in the roofing industry.
Lydick-Hooks Roofing Company of Lubbock, Inc is a Texas corporation, incorporated in Lubbock in 1925. Lydick-Hooks Roofing Company, as far as can be determined, is the oldest roofing contractor in the state of Texas.
Lydick-Hooks Roofing has achieved its current outstanding name due to the use of the best available materials, the very best employees, and uncompromising honesty and integrity.
